Amazon.co.uk Review
One of the few genuinely outstanding British comedy shows of the past decade, Black Books unites excellent comedic performances, very funny scripts, and plenty of rewatch value. The concept is simple enough. Bernard (expertly played by Dylan Moran) runs a bookshop. The only problems are he can't stand people, hates customers, and would far prefer to be barking out cutting remarks and drinking wine. Still, it's after drinking much of the aforementioned wine that he offers Manny (Bill Bailey, again in terrific form) a job. Manny accepts, and finds his daily life involves taking abuse from Bernard, while remaining strangely and resolutely upbeat. Fran (Tamsin Greig) meanwhile also likes her wine, and finds herself stuck between the two of them, with a few odd encounters of her own thrown in too. So far nothing particularly out of the ordinary, right? Well, mix in some of the creative force behind Father Ted, combine those aforementioned performances, and simmer to the point where episode after episode garners a cocktail of sniggers and belly laughs, and you have something really rather special. Like many of the best shows, the curtain has come down on Black Books after only three series. But the long-lasting legacy are episodes that are set to be enjoyed for a long, long time to come. --Simon Brew

"Random" Comedy at it's best. July 28, 2010 Mr. S. J. Millington (UK) What more can you say apart from "I ate all your bees". Pure genius and truely "random" comedy.
Excelent sarcastic humor July 17, 2010 Fereniki Koutsoumpa (Greece) In this box set there are 3 DVDs with 18 episodes plus other matterial from the series. All of them are hilarious. I had a great time watching this complete t.v. series. I was proud to sugest to all of my friends to see it, as it seems to fit everyones sence of humor.
Discovering Black Books June 25, 2010 PAM Having caught some of the later episodes of Black Books on Freeview and enjoyed them, it was great to have the box set and to be able to start at the beginning and discover how the characters had become tangled together in the book shop. My husband and I quickly found ourselves seriously addicted through the bizarre antics of the trio and in danger of serious muscle strain from excessive laughing. Highly recommended.
Black Books DVD Set June 20, 2010 Helen Silvera (UK) Thank you Dylan Moran. This is such a treat. Watchable again and again! Intelligent, charming, funny, excellent series - why oh why don't they make more?
Excellent cast. Great storylines. Great teaming of Bailey and Moran. Tamsin Grieg is fab. Nice appearance too by the very funny Simon Pegg.
If your idea of funny is more subtle and clever than everyone else's and you find most things either too obvious, brash, lame or just plain rubbish. Try this. It's for you.
Damn awesome Books! May 30, 2010 C. D. Williams (Swansea, South Wales) I got these just after watching 2-3 of them on the Dave channel( god bless this Dave) these are absolutly brillient! Series 1 8/10 series 2 7/10 and series 3 9/10!
These are a must for anybodys collection and being there so cheap you have no reason not to try the
:) . They are a perfect combination of actors and they'll have you laughing from start to finish!
