Amazon.co.uk Review It's hard to believe it's over. Life On Mars shot out of nowhere at the beginning of 2006 to become a vital, gripping drama, and this second series more than maintains the sky high standards that the first so memorably set. What makes it even more surprising is that all the ingredients were there for it to go so tragically wrong. The central premise, that for unknown reasons modern day police detective Sam Tyler wakes up in the 1970s, is fraught with potential potholes, yet the creators of Life On Mars twist it very much in their favour, delivering a skilful, taut comparison between policing then and policing now. It's this clash of approach that provides many of Life On Mars' sparks, but nonetheless, it has much more than that going for it. It boasts, for instance, a terrific level of attention to detail, and weaves in quality narrative too, with Tyler frequently caught between unravelling his predicament, the crimes before him, and his 1970s' colleagues with their 1970s' tactics. This second, and final, series wraps things up surprisingly well, and consistently delivers laughs, action and plenty of pub talk off the back of it. It's also a delight to revisit Life On Mars, and that makes this collected boxset of the episodes of season two an absolute must for any fan of gritty, interesting and terrifically entertaining British drama. Quite, quite brilliant. --Jon Foster

Gene Hunt rules June 10, 2010 Sherah (Harvington, Worcs.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
bought this after Ashes to Ashes finished as i had withdrawal symptoms - can't stop watching it, it's so much funnier than Ashes to Ashes - i think they had a deliberate attempt to make that a bit darker. Gene Hunt rules!
UNIQUE ! May 11, 2010 J. Pfiefer (IA, USA) I actually saw the American version first when it aired on ABC. I found the series highly entertaining. However, the ending was quite disappointing.
That being said, the UK version ROCKS! I added to my Netflix que and that as they say is history! Since I was seeing it on DVD, I got to see the episodes in a short time frame and yet I found myself waiting at the mailbox for the next disc. This series is full of little details and lots of color. I was very young in the early seventies, yet the music still brought back memories.
The ending is so moving and emotional. Its American counterpart was just the opposite. This is definately TV worth watching!
Funny, light entertainment March 22, 2010 Valerie Beale (England UK) I purchased the complete series 1 + 2 of Life on Mars - I have not enjoyed anything so much for a long time, it was funny, entertaining some violence (but not much) it was amazing being taken back to the 60's (which unfortunately I remember very well from, the first time around)
I would recommend this series to all age groups
Brilliant Policing February 27, 2010 Commando Ken (Lakes) Series 1 and 2 are absolutely brilliant reflections of policing and attitudes at the time. I should know. I was one. Hyped up a bit for the camera but great fun and entertainment and a good laugh to boot.
Short, but amazing, series January 26, 2010 S. Oien I got both seasons of "Life on Mars" as Christmas prezzie this last holiday just because I'm a big Who fan (John Simm). I was pleasently surprised by the first season which I thought was very good. Strong individual episodes but it didn't move forward too much. Season two is more of the same. The episodes are a bit weaker on their own, but the over reaching arch is a lot better, and the last episodes makes up for whatever weakness the earlier episodes in season 2 had. Thank you BBC for making a great series, although a bit short. They did at least round it off perfectly!
