Amazon.co.uk Review It's hard to believe it's over. Life On Mars shot out of nowhere at the beginning of 2006 to become a vital, gripping drama, and this second series more than maintains the sky high standards that the first so memorably set. What makes it even more surprising is that all the ingredients were there for it to go so tragically wrong. The central premise, that for unknown reasons modern day police detective Sam Tyler wakes up in the 1970s, is fraught with potential potholes, yet the creators of Life On Mars twist it very much in their favour, delivering a skilful, taut comparison between policing then and policing now. It's this clash of approach that provides many of Life On Mars' sparks, but nonetheless, it has much more than that going for it. It boasts, for instance, a terrific level of attention to detail, and weaves in quality narrative too, with Tyler frequently caught between unravelling his predicament, the crimes before him, and his 1970s' colleagues with their 1970s' tactics. This second, and final, series wraps things up surprisingly well, and consistently delivers laughs, action and plenty of pub talk off the back of it. It's also a delight to revisit Life On Mars, and that makes this collected boxset of the episodes of season two an absolute must for any fan of gritty, interesting and terrifically entertaining British drama. Quite, quite brilliant. --Jon Foster

Brilliant Policing February 27, 2010 Commando Ken (Lakes) Series 1 and 2 are absolutely brilliant reflections of policing and attitudes at the time. I should know. I was one. Hyped up a bit for the camera but great fun and entertainment and a good laugh to boot.
Short, but amazing, series January 26, 2010 S. Oien I got both seasons of "Life on Mars" as Christmas prezzie this last holiday just because I'm a big Who fan (John Simm). I was pleasently surprised by the first season which I thought was very good. Strong individual episodes but it didn't move forward too much. Season two is more of the same. The episodes are a bit weaker on their own, but the over reaching arch is a lot better, and the last episodes makes up for whatever weakness the earlier episodes in season 2 had. Thank you BBC for making a great series, although a bit short. They did at least round it off perfectly!
LOM Series 2 January 11, 2010 Mrs. T. Greenhough When I first watched the second series I was sat in my arm chair hoping, praying that it would be as brilliant as the first series. And guess what, it bloody was.
Life on mars is a fantastic idea that was potrayed fantasticly bty the cast.
These episodes are eight hours of TV gold this is a significant inportant show that you need to watch!
Another series loved by the husband January 9, 2010 C. Spencer It's always a big hit to give him a dvd set for christmas. He loves life on mars and so this kept him occupied for a while.
Innovative, well acted, great December 19, 2009 W. Edwards (Bristol United Kingdom) I did not get into this when it was first broadcast but on recommendation I bought the first series and then quickly sent off for the second series and watched one episode a night.
The second series can be quite dark (like A Very Peculiar Practice was dark). This is one of those rare TV gems with great writers and actors that can re-visited. Watch the episodes in order when you can give them full attention. The haunting singing of, I think, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole in one episode was particularly striking.
