Amazon.co.uk Review The sweet, snarky charms of How I Met Your Mother are in full force on this clever sitcom's second season. The show's conceit is that it's all from the point of view of the future self of Ted Mosby (played in our time by Josh Radnor, voiced in the future by Bob Saget), telling his kids the story of how he met their mother--a character that, two seasons in, has yet to be introduced. Instead, the show revolves around Ted's romantic pursuit of Robin (Cobie Smulders) and the cosy relationship of Ted's best friends, Lily (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's beloved Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel from another cult show, Freaks and Geeks). Careening through these two love stories is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris, the former Doogie Howser, M.D.), an aggressively single womaniser, whose intimate friendship with this largely sincere and domestic bunch doesn't make much sense...but often makes for excellent comedy. This goofy quintet of late 20somethings flounder their way through life in New York, wrestling with love and careers. When the first season ended, Ted and Robin had finally hooked up, but Marshall and Lily had suddenly split up. Season two runs with this, enriching the relationships among all the characters over the season's progress while spinning out all sorts of stand-alone plots that make each episode a treat. Examples: Ted discovers that his parents have been keeping a secret from him; Marshall, feeling burnt by love, starts doing couple things with a newly single male friend; Lily gets a job at Ted's office and is appalled by Ted's obnoxious boss; Robin tries to keep Ted from discovering her sordid past; and Barney...well, Barney is the gleeful source of a dozen cockeyed tales, ranging from asking Lily to paint a nude portrait of him to grappling poorly with his gay brother's sudden turn to monogamy to going on The Price is Right to find his father. The entire cast is superb (and much more confident this season), but Harris's inexplicably endearing smarminess really pushes the show into a higher comic bracket. That performance energy--combined with the cunning use of flashbacks and other twisty story techniques--makes How I Met Your Mother both sweet and spicy, a conventional sitcom that tweaks the formula enough to make it feel fresh and engaging. If the creators can keep this up, this show will become a classic.--Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Continuing a brilliant series. July 15, 2010 Samuel Clemens How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) is, in my opinion, currently the funniest show on T.V. Like Friends, you just want to be part of the group that makes up the characters in this series.
Season 2 leaves of from the first, with great story lines, wonderful acting and very funny scripts. Now in its 6th season, this show just gets better and better; hard to believe as it started at such a high level.
The best season June 2, 2010 Paul Burgess This is my favorite season and it had my favorite episode. Just buy it. I've seen it like over 9000 times.
Excellent but one major flaw March 26, 2010 A. Watson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
HIMYM is by far the best Sit Com to come out in the past decade. It seems to be advertised as being 'just like Friends' but is so much more. It is extremely clever and also realistic. When one character says a joke, the others laugh. It seems so much more natural. I love the injokes and the flashbacks and how each episode is like sitting down with a friend who is about to tell you an awesome drunken story. There's even inconsistancies and references back. It makes it a much more refreshing watch than the usual seen it all before obvious jokes of previous sitcoms (friends included)
However this DVD boxset loses 2 stars because I was sooooo looking forward to the special features and both me n my partner were extremely disappointed to find there weren't any. There were some on the American release. Bloopers and easter eggs and commentary from the cast. I would like to know how the special features were overlooked, especially since it took so long for a UK release of these dvds to happen. Here's hoping they don't make the same mistake with season 3.
Legendary! March 18, 2010 Princess Dala 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The episode with Barney's flat is my absolute favourite in all seasons I've seen so far!
Best season ever!!!!!!! February 19, 2010 C. Harris It's been a long wait for those of us who've been watching How I Met Your Mother since it first aired on UK television and the second season DVD arrives two and half years after the first season was released, but it is worth the wait. Though season two deviates from the show's underlying theme as Ted is in a relationship with Robyn for the whole season and his quest for the titular mother is put on the back burner season two is even better than season one. At times it becomes the "Barney Show" but that is always a bad thing as it is Barney's perfectly timed one liners and witty batter with Marshall that make this show so great. Inevitably this show is compared to Friends because it revolves around a group of white people living in New York but HIMYM brings something fresh to the TV sitcom genre. Season two includes the classical episodes "The Scorpion and the Toad", "Ted Mosby: Architect", "Swarley", "Slap Bet", "Arrivederci, Fiero", "Showdown" and my own personal favourite "Monday Night Football." It's probably considered sacrilege to say this but I'm going to say it anyway, HIMYM has surpassed Friends and season two is its crown jewel.
